Motivation alone is not enough. If you have an idiot and you motivate him, now you have a motivated idiot.

Jim Rohn

I love this quote and know why it makes me think of myself years ago. I was a motivated idiot!! I wanted something so bad outside of myself—like money and materialism—so I could prove I was someone and be important. Strange isn’t it when we don’t value ourselves inside, and we look for value on the outside? I remember going to these “get rich and you’ll be so happy” seminars; they used to motivate me so much that I believe they could of gotten me to do anything or buy anything.

Do you remember hearing what happened with the motivational speaker James Ray? Three people were killed at a retreat where he motivated people to stay in a sweat lodge too long, which resulted in their deaths. I have a lot of compassion for the people involved in this incident. If I had been in that situation and a motivational speaker said, Stay in this heat and you’ll be rich and have a great life, this could have happened to me. I would not be writing this today.

I thank God that I learned joy does not come from money, materialism, or anything outside myself.  Money is neutral. Having it will not bring you joy, and the lack of it will not bring you joy. Get in touch with the beauty that’s inside you, and fall in love with life! There is a Divine inspiration inside you that will pull you like a magnet toward creating the life you deserve. You have an abundance of knowledge and guidance inside you, and there is no need to be motivated by anything external. I’m not saying you won’t need a friend to talk to or a coach along the way, but you won’t need someone to motivate you to go after some external nirvana that will cause you to stay awake at night because you’re so happy. It just doesn’t work that way. I invite you to be content for You and what you have in life. Be in love with yourself and share your calling with the world. Nothing external will ever substitute for these things.

Get in touch with your internal guidance and inspiration. Quiet the mind monster upstairs whose favorite word is “should.” You should do that; what are people going to think! You should do that; you’ll hurt their feelings and they’ll think you don’t like them. You should do that; everyone else is doing it. You should ignore your true feelings again. The deep intuition inside you does not operate with “should;” it would never “should” all over you. It operates with a Truth of what is best for you and what really makes you come alive. WARNING: there’s a good chance this could be opposite of what you have always done and what everyone else is doing—including you’re friends. This might be the complete opposite of what society has taught us what “normal” is, but you will be empowered to be who you really are, feel amazing, and really fall in love with life.

Get very comfortable with the word “NO” that you might be using. I know it’s a scary word. When you feel deep inside you don’t want to do something, use “NO.” When you use this word, you don’t have to be rude; it can be said with kindness and firmness. And don’t allow anyone to talk you out of what you want to do or not do or allow yourself to be talked into going against how you feel.

What is one thing you can say NO to that no longer serves you?
