Hello my friend,

We are gifted with something in life that makes life a whole lot easier. It’s the subconscious mind, or perhaps a better name for this would be autopilot. This magical thing from the brain, or wherever it comes from, allows us to go on autopilot and form our habits. These habits can be a blessing, or can disempower us from living the life we know we deserve.

The best example of this magical, unconscious autopilot is driving a car. I remember when I was learning to drive a car I had to consciously think about everything—when and how hard to put on the brakes, how close I was to other cars and the white line and when should I put the turn signal on. Driving was hard work, because I had to consciously think about everything. Today when I drive, I can talk on the phone, eat a sandwich, talk to passengers and watch TV all at the same time. Just kidding! But now sometimes I arrive at places and don’t remember driving there at all. It’s as if I blinked and arrived at my destination. Can you relate? This is my subconscious allowing me to drive on autopilot.


Knowing about being on autopilot and how we form our habits is extremely important to being a Hero. To do or be what you want in life you must know your habits and how to change them.

A few years ago I decided I wanted to start mediating and make it a habit. So I made a conscious decision to set my alarm 30 minutes before I had to get up and mediate. And guess what?! The first few weeks of this practice were awful! I disliked every minute of it. But I told myself if I still didn’t like it after 70 days, I would quit. Because I knew it takes about 45 to 70 days to form a habit, and when you first start doing things and changing habits, it’s not fun. Well, an amazing thing happened—I started liking and enjoying meditation. Today when I wake up I meditate immediately, because it’s in my autopilot and an empowering habit. And I love to do it; it’s very rewarding and I give this practice a lot of credit for helping me transform my life.

Are habits easy to break? Absolutely NOT!! Is it worth it to get rid of disempowering habits and add an empowering habit? Absolutely YES!!!

The first 30 to 60 days you’re going to have to use your conscious mind to help you. Put out sticky notes, shoes to trip over, an alarm clock far away from your bed, or whatever it takes to jar your memory and kick you into action.
