When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.

~Jimi Hendrix

More than ten years ago, my wife and I were watching my three-year-old niece Izzy. My wife was upstairs washing in her the bathtub and Izzy decided to jump out of the tub. She went running down the hall with soap all over her, laughing, and my wife was telling her to come back and get in the tub.

I heard what was going on from downstairs and went to the bottom of steps and saw her at the top of the steps and yelled at the top of my lungs, “Izzy, get your F******* Ass in the tub right now!” She ran back to my wife and got into the tub crying her eyes out.  And I went back to what I was doing, so proud that I knew how to make kids listen to me with fear.

I have to be brutally honest—when I write something from the past that I’m not proud of, I feel a lot of sadness for doing those things. But I also get to feel a lot of grace for being able to change the things I was taught and witnessed as a kid. Another way of saying this is that I changed my life by changing what I was conditioned to believe was right. And for that, I have a lot of gratitude.

There are two ways to live your life. You can live from your head, which is fear, or from or you can live from your heart, which is love. I believe almost everyone has been programmed from fear growing up. Fear of authority, fear of success, fear of strangers, fear of not being successful, fear of failure, fear of not being accepted, fear people in other countries, fear of God.

Maybe you experienced growing up with discipline used with fear. Or perhaps you were taught scarcity—that we don’t have enough, or that using the fear of violence will change things. Most of us are told we don’t have the answers and someone or something outside of ourselves does. We are taught to fear dying because we could go to Hell, and taught to not believe in ourselves and the dreams and passion inside us. I believe we have been taught to walk through life scared to death. And it’s very hard to feel joy, passion, and love when you’re living in fear.

There is another way to live your life with love, peace, freedom and joy, and that’s through the heart and soul. This way of living is completely opposite of how we have been trained and conditioned to live. I believe most people know there’s more to life—they just don’t know what that is. And that something is feeling and living from your heart.

One of the big reasons most people don’t live from their heart, other than the conditioning I talk about, is suppressed feelings. Yes, there’s crap inside blocking you from being and feeling who you really are.

We have been taught that it’s bad to have certain feelings, or stuff happened to us when we were too young to understand, so we squished it down inside. Some of the feelings inside could be anger, sadness, loneliness, rage, and that crap needs to released by bringing it into the now and light.

If you’re not willing to feel the dark, then you won’t be able to feel the light. Allow yourself to truly feel and live an amazing adventurous life from your heart.

 Izzy and I

I love happy endings and this is my happy ending. Izzy is 14 years old and has grown into an amazing beautiful young lady. And the best part is that I have a connected relationship with her based on love, not fear. The rewards are incredible when you live from your heart!!

There’s only one thing you need to live from your heart, and that’s desire. If you have a strong desire to change, the Universe will give you what you need. Just be willing to take action. Be 100 percent committed to yourself and your life.

Do you have a strong desire and are you committed to be the person you know deep down inside you’re meant to be???

Allow yourself to feel the pure feelings inside you that are coming from the child inside you.
