Life is a song – sing it. Life is a game – play it. Life is a challenge – meet it.

Life is a dream – realize it. Life is a sacrifice – offer it. Life is love – enjoy it.

Have you seen the Staples commercial where there’s an easy button? Guess what? There’s no easy button to living your purpose and being a Hero. I know great way to start an article—it makes you wanna run out and do your purpose. I’m going to repeat this– it’s not going to be easy and anybody that tells you anything else, run from them because their blowing smoke up your ass. But damn, it’s going to be worth it!!

You know something? You want a challenge, and there’s something inside of you that wants to awaken and rise to the occasion and slay these nay-saying and fearful thoughts. Can you imagine a mountain climber about ready to climb Mt. Everest and someone tells them, “Hey, we got a new elevator that takes you to the top in minutes, it’s real easy!” Do you think that mountain climber would jump on that elevator and not do the climb? No way!! They wouldn’t even think about it; it’s the challenge and the climb for them. I can guarantee you there’s never been an Olympic athlete who won a gold medal and stood on the podium a said, “WOW, that was easy.” They used their God given talents with a lot of action and hard work. And you have the same God given natural talents inside you.

I believe there’s a spiritual mindset that believes that it will and should be easy to walk the enlightened path and do what your heart desires. The one where if you sit around and think, visualize and mediate on it, that your dream life will come to you easily and effortlessly (a favorite word of this mindset). Not that there’s anything wrong with doing these things—I do them myself, but don’t expect the life of service and meaning to be easy and without a lot of hard work. Easy is being comfortable  and going to a job you don’t like every day and being phony at cocktail parties, but to do what you’re truly meant to do—be assured there will be bumps in the road.

I know what this spiritual mindset is teaching; they’re teaching that when we’re in alignment with a Higher Power/Universe/ God/ Higher Good—whatever you want to call it, everything you need to fulfill your calling will come at the perfect time. It might not come to your doorstep, but the perfect person, place or thing will come. Divine Timing. It’s being in flow with the Universe, not running around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to be successful and prove yourself. That’s not to say there won’t be obstacles and days you want to throw your hands up and quit.

There hasn’t been a Hero yet that got the Easy button, or wanted the easy button. That’s why they’re called Heroes. Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, Peace Pilgrim, Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks never wanted or asked for an easy button, and I am extremely grateful that these Heroes did not take the effortless road but took the road less traveled. Challenges are what make us better, stronger, more powerful and humble.

Be a Hero today and become the person you need to be to fulfill your purpose, and make the world a better place along the way.
